I recently got into a discussion/debate on another forum regarding God, Jesus and the Bible. The discussion was with a skeptic who was raised in a Christian home but became angry with God and walked away from Him, similar to my own story. The fact he asks a zillion questions gives me reason to hope for his future, but leaves me feeling dissatisfied with the issue of discussion with someone who is obviously very smart. His questions at one moment seem sincere and in the next moment seem arrogant. And given the nature of the internet, it is nearly impossible to tell what the true tone of his questions is. So, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and answered his questions to the best of my ability over the course of the last several days and finally offered to send him a resource full of evidence for God, Jesus and the Bible. I even challenged him by asking him if he was open minded enough to read this information. His response was, “Evidence doesn't exist within a book and within the mind exclusively.” To which I throw up my internet hands and say, “huh”. Why do I bother getting into these debates? Well, one of my friends tells me it is good for me to have these discussions because they help me hone my belief and my faith and the other reason is, of course, in the hope that my words might sink in and reach someone who is lost, but I confess these debates sure do have a way of taking the wind right out of my sails.
