fun with atheists... this guy (self procalimed atheist) is trying to convince me and other Christians in a forum on myspace how we are just mentally ill and he needs to bring us back to our senses... so i've been emailing him back and forth about where did we all come from... it's been quite amusing and i think he finally gave up... here is an exerpt of the conversation:
him - The evidence is against the existence of a god.
Life is good
me - so you believe we all just randomly evolved from nothing...
him - So you believe we were magicked out of the bum of a beardy chap in the sky?
Evolution is not random, mutation is random but natural selection is deterministic - survival of the fittest (Note that fittest can mean many different things depending on situation and circumstance).
What did we evolve from? Way back when, organic long-chain molecules, chemicals present in the early earth.
me - mmm hmmm... but where did the earth come from?
him - It accreted from a disk of dust and gas that formed around the sun when it was just a protostar.
me - and where did the sun come from?
him - the same cloud of dust and gas. Stars form in nebulae.
me - and where did all that come from?
him - From the first generation of stars, many of which went nova.
Since we've already contradicted Genesis with the origin of life, planets, moons and stars you need to either revise your god hypothesis or give it up.
me - but you didn't contradict Genesis at all... God created the universe...
him - Look at how and the order and that things are created, that they don't naturally arise one from another.
me - they don't have to because God created them as is
i think i may have caused his head to explode... he stopped responding... i was actually waiting to see how long it would take him to just give up... you can't make a person change his/her mind about what they firmly believe... it works both ways... so what should we do now? respect each other and be kind to each other anyway... that's how Jesus lived... He offered so much to those around Him when He was here on earth... some believed and many didn't... and when they didn't, He respectfully walked away...
John 3:10-12
10"You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things? 11I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?
