conversation with an atheist part deux:
him - So you throw out your bible then?
me - nope... did you study yours?
him - Yep. Genesis does not in any way tie up with the known process of stellar, planetary or life formation.
me - that's because you are not capable of reading between the lines and hearing God's voice...
him - Personally interpreting the bible is against the words of the bible
2 Timothy 3:16
2 Peter 20-21
A nonexistant being doesn't have a voice. It takes a lot MORE than reading between the lines.
How do you decide what is literal and what is allegory when reading? If Genesis is flawed then there's no original sin and thus no need for the whole Jesus bait-and-switch.
me - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
you just pointed out a scripture that let's us know that the Bible is true... heh... and God most definitely has a voice... He speaks to me all the time... is it an audible voice? yes...
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished
(Matthew 5:17,1
your 2 Peter reference was missing the chapter...
19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed,[a] which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; 20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God[c] spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1:19-21
i didn't say i was interpreting the Bible... it is already written as it should be... it is 100% true and accurate and it is the inerrant word of God... Genesis is not flawed...
this is why you don't understand it:
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God
1 Corinthians 1:18
The foolishness of a man twists his way, And his heart frets against the LORD.
Proverbs 19:3
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians 2:14
him - As per, you have missed my point. You have been personally interpreting, not taking it at face value, of course when you do take it at face value, it doesn't cover the facts. The voices sound like incipient schitzophrenia, I would see a psychologist ASAP
me - it covers the facts for me just fine... you are just blind... and i am not schizophrenic... thanks for you concern though...
him - Do I need to spell it out step by step for you?
me - nope... you cannot change my mind or my faith... EVER...
him - The very definition of a closed mind. The assertions of your faith are provably wrong. How do you reconcile hard fact that contradicts your faith?
me - just give it up... i'm not going to change my mind... any fact you give me will not change my mind... my mind is most assuredly closed... )
him - This is not something to be proud of, nor is ignoring facts.
me - says the dead man who can't just let me live my life for the glory of God... what's the matter? your life is so miserable that you need company? can't stand to meet anybody who is blissfully happy because she believes in God? do you like to break up happily married people in your spare time as well? you can no more prove God doesn't exist than i can prove God does exist... and just because you don't believe He's there doesn't mean He isn't... please stop wasting your time on the likes of little old me... you are just going to get yourself all worked up and angry and have a stroke and die again... and i would hate for that to happen before you get the chance to repent and accept the gift of salvation from Jesus Christ...
him - There is no god, you're wasting your life. Why do Christians try to convert others?
Many drug users and drunks are blissfully happy also, yet we still try to cure them of their affliction and they're greatful for it. Happily married people aren't delusional or a threat to themselves and others. If you have a specific value of god, it can be disproven. The biblical god for example does not and cannot exist by the definition of the bible. Now why would anyone swear to an invisible imaginary friend like that?
me - i'm not trying to convert you... why are you trying to convert me? if you are presented with all the evidence for Jesus Christ and God and you refuse to believe in Him anyway, that's between you and Him... there's a big difference in not believing in God and refusing to believe in God and i would have to conclude from all of this that you simply refuse to believe in God... have you read Lee Strobel, Josh McDowell or CS Lewis? all atheists who changed their minds when they went in search of trying to prove God doesn't exist... have you read any of the evidence for Christ?
him -Because you're wating your life, your one, single, precious life to this god fiction and you'll drag others down with you. There isn't any evidence. again I repeat, there is no evidence. For the third time - there isn't any. I have read Strobel and CS Lewis.
me - well it's time to end this conversation then... have a great life and if you are a dad, then happy father's day to you, or wait... do they even celebrate father's day in britain? or wait... are you even really british? nevermind... I'll be praying for your soul...
him - Why not pray for my squigigglemupumph while you're at it? No, I've no idea what one is but I don't have one any more than I have a soul. Yes, I'm british. Yes we have father's day.
Why stop though? Maybe we'll get somewhere and bring you back to rationality.
me - well then this has to be an equally divided conversation... you present your evidence of no God and i'll present my evidence of God... i'll be happy to listen to your evidence if you are equally happy to listen to mine... otherwise no deal... and at some point there has to be an end to the conversation... if we end up not agreeing with each other, then so be it... and i still don't understand why you are so determined to get me to change my mind... it's not like i have some diabolical plot to take over the world..
him - We need a starting point. One cannot prove a negative, one can only prove or disprove a positive assertion, so I'll need - as best as you can equip - your definition of god. Attributes, deeds, source and so forth. You are part of a belief that threatens the world. It doesn't need to be intelligent to do so. Did you ever see the science fiction movie The Blob? It's just a blob of ectoplasm, very simple, all it does is eat and grow, recoil when hurt, but as it absorbs it grows bigger and becomes a greater and greater threat. A faith is like The Blob.
me - God is the creator of the universe... He is righteous, holy, infinite, all knowing and present everywhere... He is a trinity - God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit... He never changes... He is merciful, loving, just and fair... i see the only threat of Christianity to the world as being people want to control their own lives and the thought of an outside force doing it for them is incomprehensible... nobody wants to be told they are wrong... nobody wants to let something else control their lives... the blob is a silly movie... faith is not like a blob... all the problems in the world are not caused by faith in God... they are caused by humanity... your blaming faith as the cause of war is like blaming the gun for killing the person... the gun didn't kill him, the person who shot the gun killed the person... do people use faith as an excuse for their actions when they start their wars? yes they do... but just like every person who owns a gun will not go out on a shooting spree, so every person who is faith in God will not go out and start wars... you are blaming all for the actions of a few...
so when i finally agreed to "debate" God, he left me alone... and i just don't get it... but whatever...
