today, i went to jail and it was an amazing experience! we had an outreach at one of the women's prisons in broward county... the drama team performed and one of the radio hosts from reach fm was the speaker and spoke about the parable of the prodigal son and it was so moving... we visited 4 cell blocks and got to pray for women who are just so broken... in the last cell block, which was maximum security, i got to share my God story with the whole group... it was a little unnerving to walk into prison, however, as soon as i got in and sat down with these women, i realized almost immediately they are just like you and i... they are people who love and laugh and cry and sing... they have anger and disappointment and sorrow and pain... we aren't so different... you never know what you are capable of doing if you are desperate or incredibly angry... we all screw up at some point in our lives... i know i did a royal job of messing up my life and it's only by the grace of God that i'm not in jail myself... i can't even tell you how many times i drove drunk... i just thank God He saw fit to not put a car in my path or a person crossing the street... so if you are a praying person, pray for the people who are in prison... they aren't just in our man made prisons, they are in the prisons of their minds as well...
Hebrews 13:3
Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
